Anthropic Targets Business Automation with Claude Duet Launch

The new agent app distinguishes itself by focusing on professional workflows and background task management rather than personal errands.

The artificial intelligence landscape is currently saturated with personal assistants and productivity tools, with new competitors emerging weekly. Amidst this crowded field, Anthropic is making a distinct move to capture user attention by launching Claude Duet. The new application is designed to compete directly with established players like Meta Muse, OpenAI Dots, Hark, Instinct, Grok Bot, and Fo, but it carves out a specific niche by targeting professionals and small businesses rather than the general consumer market.

Anthropic is drawing a clear line between its new offering and existing personal agents. The company explicitly notes that Duet is not optimized for handling personal errands, such as booking tickets, nor does it offer a live view of its browser activity. Instead, the platform is engineered for professional utility, focusing on automating complex workflows and managing business tasks. This strategic positioning allows Anthropic to differentiate Duet from tools like Instinct, which prioritize personal assistance features.

The core functionality of Duet revolves around proactive support. The agent can construct daily briefings, generate custom dashboards, and propose specific actions based on user data. Like other advanced agents, Duet operates within its own virtual machine, allowing it to complete tasks in the background while users focus on other activities. It will return to the user only when approval is needed for next steps, streamlining the workflow for busy professionals.

The launch of Duet coincides with a broader market shift from simple AI assistants to autonomous agents that act on a user’s behalf. Many of Anthropic’s competitors are also pivoting toward business use cases. Meta, for instance, has released a version of its Muse assistant specifically for small businesses, featuring connections to various third-party applications. Similarly, OpenAI’s Dots has adopted a business-oriented approach by integrating with professional tools. Anthropic’s entry into this space signals a competitive intensification in the enterprise-focused AI sector.

Under the hood, Duet is built on the Claude Opus 5.5 model. It boasts significant connectivity, with access to more than 6,000 connectors and plug-ins available in the Claude Marketplace. This extensive ecosystem allows the agent to interact with a wide array of business software. Furthermore, Duet can execute online purchases on behalf of users by integrating with Stripe’s Link digital wallet and Shopify’s Shop Pay, adding a financial dimension to its task management capabilities.

Security and control remain central to the design. Anthropic stated that sensitive actions, particularly those involving payments, require explicit user approval. To maintain financial boundaries, the agent is programmed not to trade securities or transfer money between accounts. Additionally, the company introduced a new classifier that scans every message to prevent the leakage of sensitive information. By default, the agent will decline requests that ask for credit card numbers or government identification details, adding a layer of privacy protection.

Claude Duet is currently available in a research preview for Pro and Max customers. Users can access the service via web browsers at Claude.ai or through dedicated applications on iOS and Android. Due to high interest, access is currently gated behind a waitlist, requiring users to sign up to test the platform. This phased rollout allows Anthropic to gather feedback and refine the agent's performance before a wider public release.

The introduction of Duet marks a significant step for Anthropic in the agent-based AI market. By focusing on professional automation and robust connectivity, the company is positioning itself as a key player in the next phase of AI adoption. As the distinction between personal and business agents becomes more pronounced, the success of Duet will likely depend on its ability to deliver reliable, background-processed results for small business owners and professionals.
