Families looking to avoid the work of decorating, entertaining and cleaning up after a child's birthday have a range of Oklahoma City venues to choose from. Options include hands-on museums, indoor play spaces and sports facilities. Costs and availability vary by location, and most require advance registration, so families are advised to call ahead to book.

Two Remington Place institutions focus on learning. Science Museum Oklahoma, described as the state's only hands-on science museum, offers a private party room along with exhibits, live science demonstrations and a movie on its giant screen. It is best suited to ages 5 to 12, with parties starting at $250 for members and $290 for nonmembers. Next door, the Oklahoma City Zoo's Wild Birthday packages include a party room in the Learning Center and all-day admission. Add-ons include an animal ambassador visit, stingray feeding or lorikeet feeding. Zoo parties are held only on weekends in set time slots, on a first-come, first-served basis, and packages start around $260 for members and $300 for nonmembers.

For younger children, Chuck E. Cheese on NW Expressway offers a classic arcade party with unlimited gameplay, a ticket blaster and a birthday show. Kids get two hours of play, and packages start around $99.99 for ages 3 to 8. The location shares a parking lot with other businesses, so visitors may want extra time to park on busy Saturdays. Jump!Zone, on South Western Avenue, is an all-inflatable center with giant slides, obstacle courses, a zip line and a separate toddler area. Packages start at $280 for an hour of play and up to 25 children. Birthday cake is allowed, but other outside food is limited.

Slick City Action Park, on Penn Park Boulevard, packs slides, trampolines and obstacle courses under one roof, which makes it a practical choice when Oklahoma weather is unpredictable. Hosts handle setup and cleanup, and packages start at $269 for ages 5 to 13. Every guest must complete a waiver ahead of time, including adults who enter the attraction area.

Older children and tweens have more active options. SoccerCity OKC lets families rent a field for a sports-themed party and also offers lock-ins. It suits ages 6 to 18, and families must call for a customized estimate. Threshold offers supervised climbing and a private party room for ages 6 to 14, with standard packages starting around $350, depending on the number of climbers. First-time climbers need a safety orientation and equipment set-up, so guests should arrive early.

Topgolf, on Pawnee Drive, gives each group a private bay and is best for ages 8 to 17. Youth packages are available for guests 17 and under, with pricing that varies by bay and add-ons. Guests younger than 16 must be supervised by an adult at least 21 years old, a rule hosts should consider when building the guest list.

Blue Zoo Oklahoma City, on West Memorial Road, rounds out the list with a private party room in front of the shark tank. Parties include aquarium-themed decorations and a scavenger hunt, and families can add a costumed character or a special experience with the resident divers. Guests can then explore the aquarium. Outside food such as cake, pizza and ice cream is allowed but must stay in the party room. Weekday packages start at $150 for parties of 10, with higher prices on weekends and for larger groups.
